Following a three year partnership with Inspire in Nottinghamshire, NYCGB are turning this successful initiative into a legacy programme and template for future long-term relationships as we grow our presence and reach across the UK.

NYCGB’s involvement in Nottinghamshire continues in December 2019 as we join 9 school choirs at the Royal Concert Hall Nottingham for their annual celebration of singing success in the county: An Inspired Christmas. For this, NYCGB vocal leader Dominic Ellis-Peckham will be joined by around 300 young singers, their teachers and Inspire Music staff as they perform for families, friends and invited guests.

Since 2016, 2214 young people have taken part in NYCGB partnership activities in Nottinghamshire, and we are proud to be continuing our work in Nottinghamshire with the support of Inspire, the lead partner of Nottinghamshire Music Education Hub. In the future, NYCGB will be focusing on bespoke activity designed with Inspire to embed the outcomes of our three-year programme.

Some of the outcomes we observed over the course of our activity included an increase in the engagement of young people with singing opportunities in Nottinghamshire, an increase in musical achievement, confidence and aspiration of the young participants, the development of young people’s non-musical skills, a greater confidence amongst teachers and more developed creative ambitions, and the raised profile of singing across the region with greater support from local stakeholders.

As part of our legacy programme we will be working together to support young singers from Nottinghamshire in developing and progressing their musical talent, as well as sharing best practice across the region and growing the regional network of champions for singing.

NYCGB’s Learning and Engagement activity is centred around strategic partnerships (such as this one) which provide unique, high-quality singing opportunities for young people in state education. We focus particularly on parts of the country with low cultural engagement where young people face geographical, financial and cultural barriers to taking part in singing activity.
