New-look Annual Programme for National Youth Choir of Great Britain

NYCGB is excited to announce a new-look ‘Annual Programme’ for its flagship ensemble, the National Youth Choir of Great Britain, with auditions booking opening today via

Since 1983, members of the National Youth Choir have attended up to two residential courses each year, a schedule since adopted by NYCGB’s National Youth Training Choir (1995) Boys’ Choir and Girls’ Choir (2003).

From 2018-19, the National Youth Choir will meet four times a year for an Annual Programme of residential and non-residential projects. The 2018-19 Annual Programme will include:

  • Project 1 (Nov 2018) Guest masterclasses from Ken Burton, Chithra Ramakrishnan, vocal health workshops, repertoire sessions and a broadcast recording.
  • Project 2 (Dec 2018): Concert rehearsals and performances as part of the Royal Albert Hall’s all-new Christmas programme.
  • Project 3 (Apr 2019): Mini-residential with guest professional ensemble mentors, collaboration with young composers, rehearsals and performance at Royal Concert Hall, Nottingham.
  • Project 4 (Aug 2019): Residential with guest conductor Robert Hollingworth, recording session, rehearsals and performance including premiere of new NYCGB work by ‘Forces of Nature’ composer Benji Merrison.

Most projects will be compulsory, ensuring year-round ensemble development. There will also be optional special projects. The age range for the choir will shift upwards to 18-25, with extensive financial assistance available to enable members from all backgrounds to take part.

NYCGB Artistic Director Ben Parry said: “My wish is that the members who make up NYCGB’s flagship choir are offered the very best opportunities, and get to participate in the top choral experience for young people in the UK. To achieve this will require commitment and dedication from NYC members, but I know that the results will be hugely enjoyable and rewarding. We in turn are promising to do everything we can to make this new-look programme a success for them, and to enable singers from every background to take part.”

Auditions booking for the National Youth Choir 2018-19 Annual Programme is open now.

Open auditions will be held in Manchester on Saturday 15 September and in London on Sunday 16 September. For auditions booking and further information see
