Anthony Garnett is Head of Audit, HM Government Department for International Development.

He is a graduate from Durham University with a first degree in politics and an MBA awarded with distinction. Prior to rejoining the University as Director of Business Assurance, Anthony qualified as a chartered accountant at KPMG LLP. He is also a qualified chartered internal auditor and IT auditor, and is currently studying for a PhD in the field of strategic marketing.

Anthony is experienced in directing and managing both internal and financial statements audit services to a range of public and private sector organisations. He also has significant risk management, government funding and consultancy expertise. He holds the Government Internal Audit Certificate (GIAC) and is PRINCE2 accredited.

Anthony has, in prior years, represented the sector's auditors as the national chairperson of CHEIA (The Council of Higher Education Internal Auditors - the representative professional body for HEI internal auditors).
