The Christmas Appeal by former members of the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain has raised a total of £11,458.13 for the Alumni Champions Fund, which supports current members of NYCGB with the costs of particpation.

The appeal was led by the Alumni Champions Committee, and kick-started by a matched donation of £3,000 from NYCGB’s President John Rutter CBE. The committee ran a highly successful awareness campaign via social media, securing specially-filmed messages of support from Alumni in the UK, the USA, Russia and Australia.

A total of £6,360.50 was received in donations, with an additional £2,097.63 secured through Gift Aid relief. All of the money raised will now be awarded to current members of NYCGB requiring financial assistance to participate in 2018, overseen by Alumni Champions Committee member and former National Youth Choir member Lizzie Spear.

Lizzie said:

“As a founder member of NYCGB I am completely honoured by the opportunity to give back to the next generation. My time in the choir was cut short due to my family circumstances leaving me with no funding to afford membership. My very best friends in life are almost all NYCGB Alumni and I’m nearly 50! I’m feeling very proud and humbled, but mostly excited for all those young people who are going to have such an amazing time as members of NYCGB this year.”

Future activity in aid of the Alumni Champions Fund will be announced by the Alumni Champions Committee in 2018 as part of a wider programme of community events and opportunities. Former members of any NYCGB choir are warmly invited to sign up to the mailing list to get back in touch and to stay up to date.

Thank you!

Everyone at NYCGB would like to thank the Alumni Champions Committee for their wonderful dedication and huge commitment to running this campaign, our President John Rutter for his most generous support, and all of the Alumni donors for their incredible gifts and messages sent in over the past five weeks.
