A Virtual Reality experience which takes viewers back in time to the First World War to the sounds of the National Youth Choir has won an award at the 2018 Raindance Film Festival.

‘Nothing to be written’ was developed by 59 Productions as an offshoot of their spectacular collaboration with Anna Meredith, ‘Five Telegrams’, which opened the 2018 BBC Proms. The experience is based on Meredith’s music for the second movement of ‘Five Telegrams’, which is for choir only, and uses the recording of NYC’s Proms performance.

Viewers wear VR headsets which place them in the middle of a CGI landscape. As the music evolves, the landscape also changes, taking in domestic and battlefield scenes from the First World War which Meredith’s work commemorates.

At the 26th Raindance Film Festival in London, ‘Nothing to be written’ triumphed in the ‘Best Documentary VR Experience’ category, beating a diverse field of entries from around the world.
