Sing Up Wrap Up!

We were delighted to be approached by Sing Up Magazine to guest edit their May issue, joining forces to share practical information, and tried and tested techniques from our brilliant team, to help inspire more young people through singing in schools.

The May issue was filled with expert advice and ideas including starting and developing choirs in your school, conducting, encouraging boys to sing, progression pathways and even choirs for teachers. Many of these resources have been shared via our Social Media channels - Don't worry if you missed them - see below for ways to access some of these brilliant tips and ideas!

Sing Up Chief Executive Michelle James said:

Having the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain acting as guest editor has been a joy for the organisation and for me, personally, as an alumnus of NYCGB myself. I was a member of the choir when I was a teenager and learnt an enormous amount from the experience. I’ll never forget the sound of the choir at my first rehearsal with them. The thrill of sitting amongst a group of amazingly talented singers, the breathtakingly high expectations around sight-singing fiendishly difficult repertoire and just the pure joy of being a part of that glorious sound! I absolutely loved every minute of it.

She went on to say:

NYCGB has moved on a long way since those days when there was just one choir. There are now five choirs catering for a broad range of ages, plus lots of new opportunities for children and young people to engage with the organisation in other ways. They are an organisation with a commitment to supporting access for all and, in particular, that financial circumstances should not be a barrier. So, if you have young singers in your school who you think would benefit from taking part in any of the activities you read about in this issue of the magazine, do encourage and support them to get involved.

Anne Besford, Chief Executive of NYCGB said:

This has been a really exciting and important collaboration for us, and we've thoroughly enjoyed it! Working in partnership with Sing Up has helped us to share the knowledge and expertise of our brilliant team more widely. We hope that it has supported and empowered teachers by giving them new ideas for developing singing in their schools based on tried and tested methods and techniques that we use with our Choirs at NYCGB, and that even more young people are inspired through singing experiences!
