The studio recording of 'The Great War Symphony' by Patrick Hawes, released on the Classic FM label, has entered the Specialist Classical Chart at number one in its first week on sale.

The album features the National Youth Choir of Great Britain with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and soloists Louise Alder and Joshua Ellicott, conducted by the composer. Written as a musical monument to the First World War, Hawes's symphonic work will receive its live concert premiere at Classic FM Live at the Royal Albert Hall on 9 October.

'The Great War Symphony' also achieved second place on the wider Classical Artist Album Top 50 Chart, behind 'Islands - Essential Einaudi'. The Italian pianist-composer's compilation has now held a position on this chart for more than seven years - a record beaten only the original studio recording of 'The Armed Man' by Karl Jenkins, also featuring the National Youth Choir, which has held a place for more than 16 years.
