Course Assistant 

Stipend: £125 - £225 (depending on the course) + food, board, and travel expenses

Main Purpose of the Role 

Course Assistants work with the Course Manager and the Head of Pastoral Care to ensure the smooth running of a course. There are three main areas a Course Assistant will support, Pastoral, Social and Administration.

Person Specification 

You will be a motivated individual, who has the ability to undertake a range of tasks and flexibly support the day-to-day operations of NYCGB’s residential courses. Our ideal Course Assistants will be practically minded, adaptable in picking up new skills and a strong team-player. This post is ideal for those wishing to gain experience in these areas and is seen as a steppingstone to more senior positions within NYCGB. 

Main Duties and Responsibilities 


  • Being aware of safeguarding responsibilities and reporting any concerns to the Head of House/Head of Pastoral Care  
  • Looking out for and helping members who may be struggling to settle in or are homesick 
  • Supervising members during breaks 
  • Sitting in on rehearsals if requested 
  • Assisting with ‘signing in’ and 'signing out' of boarding houses 
  • Assisting with ensuring the members observe the house rules 
  • Ensuring members are up and out of the boarding houses on time
  • Be available overnight in case of emergencies  


  • Helping to plan and facilitate social activities both in the afternoon break and after the evening rehearsal 
  • Integrating of members into the social activities 
  • Being present at the social events 


  • Assist the Course Manager in the smooth running of a course 

Creative (if of interest): 

  • When required, support the artistic team with musical activity on the course e.g., singing in with members to support learning, utilising instrumental or artistic skills that you have
