His works have been performed by Manchester Collective, Manchester Camerata, Ligeti Quartet, Birmingham Contemporary Music Group and broadcast on BBC Radio 6, Times Radio and Resonance FM. Her recent works focus on performance arts and instrumental sound exploration combining Eastern cultural, spiritual and philosophical elements. Sun's music has been performed in the U.K., U.S., Europe and Asia. She has composed music for the London Symphony Orchestra, The Silk Road Ensemble, the Chroma Ensemble, the Tangram, The Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra and The National Chinese Orchestra Taiwan. She has collaborated on projects with many established artists and organizations such as The Wellcome Collection, The Bristol School of Animation and Leeds Lieder Festival. This year, she received commissions from the LPO Young Composers 20/21, BBC Radio 3 for BBC Singers, Psappha 20/21, The IGF Guitar Summit and Riot Ensemble. Previously she curated The Scent of Sound concert featuring new music based on folk music elements, cross-culture and cross-arts. In 2019-2020, she was selected to join LSO's Soudhub Composer Scheme and had the privilege of being mentored by Rolf Hind and Anna Thorvaldsdottir. She began composing in collaboration with Rome-based Chinese choreographer/artist Huang Xiao and jointly created Enso(2019) and Listen(2020), both premiered at the LSO St. Lukes. She is also a composer-in-residence of both Chinese Arts Now and Tangram and lately, Her work One Undivided(2019) was co-commissioned by CAN, LSO and the Silk String quartet, her work Erasure(2019) was co-commissioned by Tangram and Yoyo Ma's Silk Road Ensemble. Recently she attended the Creative Dialogue 2019 in Finland guided by the Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho and the Finnish cellist Anssi Karttunen. In 2018, she has started a doctorate at the Royal Academy of Music under the mentorship of Helen Grime and supervised by Sir Harrison Birtwistle, Hans Abrahamsen, Anna Thorvaldsdottir and Christopher Austin. She completed her MMus degree at the RAM in 2018 and received Distinction Degree and the Pullen Memorial Prize. In 2016, Sun pursued her bachelor’s degree in composition at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. Visit Sun's Website Claire Victoria Roberts Described as writing "music of mood and muscle" by Wales Arts Review, Claire Victoria Roberts is a composer, vocalist and violinist who creates richly-scored, glimmering music, that draws upon diverse influences: from her love of lyrical jazz, to traditional fiddle music, and impressionist orchestral textures. As a contemporary composer, her music has been performed by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Psappha Ensemble, cellist Oliver Coates, Opra Cymru, Uproar Ensemble, Camden Symphony Orchestra, Solem Quartet, and The Carice Singers. Claire is the Winner of a Royal Philharmonic Society Composition Prize 2019-2020, as well as 2017 winner of the Mathias Composition prize, and 2019 winner of a Francis Chagrin award. She has been broadcast on Radio 3, Radio Wales and Radio Cymru. She is currently working on an original album for 2022, for jazz musicians and chamber orchestra, combining uptempo scat with contemporary compositions and orchestral ballads. The release will combine songs and interludes which will bring together her work as composer, violinist, and vocalist. Visit Claire's Website Follow Claire on Twitter Thomas Metcalf Thomas Metcalf is a composer and researcher based in Oxford. He recently completed his DPhil (PhD) in Music at Oxford University, where he was researching extensions of the ancient concept of ‘ekphrasis’ (description) to contemporary music. His work has appeared in various conference settings across Europe as well as being published in several academic journals. This research forms a central part of Thomas’s compositional approach, and recent projects have included pieces for the Kreutzer Quartet, Lonelinoise Collective, Horizon Voices, and Psappha. In 2021, Thomas’s music was performed across the UK, as well as in the Netherlands, Switzerland, and Mexico. Thomas currently teaches for various colleges at Oxford University, as well as Greene’s Tutorial College. He also holds a Junior Teaching Fellowship at the Ashmolean Museum, focused on exploring notions of ‘belonging’ in an interdisciplinary, exploratory context.
