The National Youth Choir is looking to appoint up to two new Trustees to the Board, who will take an active role in the strategic oversight and governance of the organisation.

We aim to lead the way in youth singing and music for ensemble voices, developing new and accessible creative and educational approaches to inspire and engage young people at all stages of their development. Trustees will join an established, experienced board as the National Youth Choir embarks on the next stage of development, building on the foundations of the last 40 years, growing our national and international creative community, and becoming even more relevant and impactful for more young people across the UK.

We are interested in hearing from anyone who shares our values and our belief in the importance of excellent and inclusive music opportunities and youth singing for all young people.

To complement the skills and perspectives of current Trustees, we particularly welcome expressions of interest from:

  • people with knowledge and expertise in: the music sector (across any genre and area of practice); education, access and inclusion; and legal practice;

  • people who are from Black, Asian and other global majority backgrounds; who identify as disabled or neurodiverse; or who are aged under 30.

We are committed to developing greater representation at all levels of the organisation and you do not need to have prior experience of being a Trustee to be considered. An induction and access to training opportunities will be provided.

You should be interested in the role of music in young people’s lives and the transformational impact it can have – particularly in terms of equity and social justice – but you don’t need to be a choral music expert.

Trustees can be based anywhere in the UK. The role is offered on a voluntary basis, but eligible expenses can be reimbursed.

Further information on the role and responsibilities, and the process to submit expressions of interest can be found in our recruitment pack
